Shell Shockers to Play First Competitive Game in Kenner Tomorrow

May 23, 2006

The displaced New Orleans Shell Shockers play a competitive game in Kenner for the first time in their four-year history on Wednesday.

They take on the Austin Lightening at 730pm at Muss Bertolino Stadium, home to the evacuated club for the rest of this post-Katrina season.

Head Coach Kenny Farrell is sure he can raise the side after their disappointing defeat to the DFW Tornados on Saturday. Despite controlling the play for long periods the Shell Shockers were caught on the counter-attack and lost 2-1.

Farrell said: “Saturday was a kick in the teeth for us and I felt it was a very unfair result. But we can’t blame anybody but ourselves and now we need to knuckle down and grind out a win.

“We are in a very competitive division with evenly-matched sides and every game will be close. With a bit of luck we could have been heading into this game with four wins under our belt instead of four defeats.

“But in every game we have gone behind and had to battle back, and on Wednesday I am hoping we can get our noses in front for a change.”

Farrell is hoping for a confidence-boosting win as the club head into a 10-day break before their next match against the DFW Tornados on Saturday June 3. The league table is so close that a win on Wednesday could lift the team up to third place.

The Austin Lightening head into Wednesday’s match with three points as they lost to the Laredo Heat 4-3 but then defeated the DFW Tornados 3-2.
