The New Orleans Shell Shockers unveiled their 2006 season schedule today.
They face a tough opening with three away games to strong Texan teams, the first of which against last year’s runners-up Laredo Heat is Saturday May 6 - just
12 days from now.
They follow this up with a road trip to current Southern Conference Mid South Division champions El Paso Patriots the following weekend for two games in two days, and then return to Southern Louisiana for their first home match on Saturday May 20 against Dallas Tornados.
That game will be the only one held at Pan American Stadium in City Park - from the next fixture against Austin Lightening on Wednesday May 24 the club will host all visiting outfits at Kenner’s Muss Bertolino Stadium.
The Shell Shockers round off their Premier Development League season with another three testing trips to Nashville, Austin and Dallas in mid-July.
The official launch of the schedule has been delayed because of uncertainty over a planned expansion franchise in Tulsa. They were originally due to join the division this year and all PDL teams were sent provisional dates, but just last week they were scrubbed from the fixture list by the United Soccer League.
Head Coach Kenny Farrell said today: “We are in the strongest conference in the country. The Texan teams have full-time professionals who play in Central America in the off-season and we have a battle on our hands to win the title.
“But I am confident we have the talent and skill to do it, and if we do reach the play-offs then we will come up against sides which are not as strong as those in our regular season campaign. I can’t wait for the kick-off and I am relishing the challenge of giving the long-suffering sports fans of Southern Louisiana a winning team.”
Details on season tickets and both corporate and community sponsorship packages details are now available from the Shell Shockers.
