Shell Shockers Stroll to Victory in Front of Large Crowd
April 17, 2006
New Orleans Shell Shockers’ Head Coach Kenny Farrell today hailed his team’s comfortable 3-1 victory against the New Orleans Select.
Goal-less at the break, second-half goals from Renan Benguche, Roberto Najarro and Tito Castillo sealed the win. The Hispanic all-stars team scored a consolation three minutes from time.
Hundreds of spectators, the vast majority from the Latin community, paid near-record receipts to watch the game at Pan American Stadium in City Park on Saturday - the city’s first top-class soccer since Katrina.
Shell Shockers Head Coach Kenny Farrell said he was happy both with the on-field performance and the success of the club’s efforts to attract fans from New Orleans’ post-hurricane influx of Central Americans.
He said: “It was a good performance at this stage of the season and our preparation for the serious stuff is back on track.
“We are keen to appeal to the large Hispanic community now living in and around New Orleans and this exhibition game was a great platform for us to build on.”
This Saturday the Shell Shockers play their last warm-up game before the league starts when they entertain Christian Brothers at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner, kick-off 7pm.
