Game Notes:

Clinton, MS (May 5, 2007) – The New Orleans Shell Shockers kicked off their 2007 season tonight as they took on the rookies of the Mid South Division, Mississippi Brilla FC. On a clear late afternoon, both teams took the field, anxious to make a good first impression. The game was a back-and-forth affair with the Shell Shockers finding the goal first, but Mississippi would not be denied as the game ended tied 1-1.

-FIRST HALF-
12th minute: Josh Couvillion took his defender one on one, cut back to his left and took a shot which was saved by goalkeeper Ueltschey.

16th minute: GOAL Couvillion with a header from 10 yards is cleared off the line but Matt Kelso is in an opportunistic spot and slots home the Shell Shockers first goal of the season. Shell Shockers 1, Brilla 0

32nd minute: The Shell Shockers were dealt a blow when Kelso went up for a header and came down injured.

35th minute: Josey Portillo pulls the ball back to his right after a corner was cleared out. His left-footed shot from 20 yards out glanced off the post and was cleared out of danger.

36th minute: A long-range shot pulled goalkeeper Dustyn Brim off his line for the save but the ball was chased down by the Brilla attack. James Gledhill made the Shell Shockers pay as his rocket from the edge of the penalty box landed inside the far post.  Shell Shockers 1, Brilla 1.

38th minute: A miscue by the Shell Shockers gives the Brilla free one-on-one but Dustyn Brim smothers the attempt to keep the game tied.

-SECOND HALF-
47th minute: A Brilla shot by Kevin Curley is easily scooped up by Brim.

51st minute: Steven Medlock shoots a laser from 25 yards out that just misses the upper corner of the far post.

70th minute: Action is end-to-end for several minutes as both teams create chances in the box but cannot convert.

74th minute: A nice run by Couvillion up the right side and a perfect centering pass finds Josey Portillo at the top of the box. His 18 yard attempt sails just over the crossbar.

90th + minute: A free kick, corner kick, and two throw-ins all looked dangerous but the Shell Shockers could not find the go-ahead goal.
