Shell Shockers Announce First Annual Battle of the Bayou
Mississippi Brilla Visit Muss Bertolino For The First Time
May 31, 2007
The New Orleans Shell Shockers and Baton Rouge Capitals are excited to announced the first-ever Battle of the Bayou. The competition will be points based and will intensify the already feverish rivalry between the two teams. The team garnering the most points in head-to-head play during the season will be handed the Louisiana Cup as well as bragging rights for the season.
Having defeated the Capitals on May 19 by a score of 3-0, the New Orleans Shell Shockers (1-1-2) hold the lead in the Battle of the Bayou standings. Baton Rouge (1-3-0) will have an opportunity to avenge their loss when they meet the Shell Shockers on their home turf at Olympia Stadium this Sunday June 3rd at 6PM. The teams will not meet again until June 27th when the Capitals return to New Orleans, and again on July 1st when the Shell Shockers travel to Baton Rouge to close out the series.
"We are very excited to be able to bring this competition to the fans of Louisiana," commented Shell Shockers General Manager Amanda Miller. "The Battle of the Bayou will only serve to heighten what has become, in such a short time, an already exciting rivalry."
Before they take on the Capitals, the Shell Shockers will return to play this Friday, June 1st, when they host the Mississippi Brilla FC (1-2-2) at Muss Bertolino Stadium at 7:30PM. Coming off of a bye-week, the match on Friday will mark the last home game the Shell Shockers will play for four weeks. Though healthy and rested, the Shell Shockers may feel the pressure of Mississippi, due to the absence of defender Nick Lambert. Lambert will be forced to sit out of the match, after acquiring two yellow cards in the May 19 game.
