On a clear, dry day the New Orleans Shell Shockers battled against the Laredo Heat in a very physical match that marked their first home game of the season, and ended in a 0-0 decision.
The first half of the game proved frustrating for both teams as there were unable to find the net, tallying only seven shots on goal. Play became tense in the 31st minute when players from both teams were booked; with New Orleans’ Gino Ray and Laredo’s Jose Macia both receiving yellow cards.
The intensity of the match continued into the second half with both teams racking up fouls. Laredo’s Steve Su rattled Shocker fans’ nerves when his shot in the 53rd minute nicked the crossbar. Just six minutes later, Dionisio Infante was handed a yellow-card in the 59th minute. Just one minute after replacing Sparky Hughes in the 68th minute, Adam Gold’s shot from 20 yards out just missed and clanked against the crossbar.
Two minutes of stoppage time did not prove to make a difference to either team, as the match remained scoreless.
