Shell Shockers to Play New England Revolution in Pre-Season Friendly
March 28, 2007On Wednesday, March 28th, the New Orleans Shell Shockers will travel to LSU Stadium in Baton Rouge to compete in a pre-season friendly against the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer.
The game kicks off at 7pm and will feature some of the best Major League Soccer talent pitted against the New Orleans Shell Shockers. Just three weeks into pre-season training, the match will give the Shell Shockers an opportunity to stretch their legs while competing against one of the top teams in Major League Soccer.
The New England Revolution competed in the MLS Cup Final for the past two seasons and their roster reads like a who’s who of US national team members.
Shell Shockers head coach Kenny Farrell relishes the opportunity to provide his players with top-notch competition.
"This game will be a great test for the 2007 Shell Shocker team. Our season begins one month later than New England’s. I expect the team to play hard and I believe the experience will prove invaluable as we look to win a PDL championship this season."
The match will be held in Baton Rouge as a way to introduce the region to the level of top-notch soccer that they can expect from their PDL home team, the Baton Rouge Capitals.
The Capitals are a member of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League. They will compete in the highly competitive Mid-South Division of the Southern Conference, playing teams from New Orleans, Austin, Dallas, Laredo and El-Paso.
Capitals General Manager Gary Buete commented, "This game is a result of the continued effort to bring the highest level of soccer to Baton Rouge. The Capitals look forward to an exciting 2007 season and hope to draw more professional soccer to the area on a regular basis."
