Media Kit: Archived Press ReleasesShell Shockers to Volunteer in St. Bernard ParishJune 3, 2007On Monday, June 4, New Orleans Shell Shockers players, coaches, and staff will wield hammers and paintbrushes in an effort to rebuild a home in St. Bernard Parish. Approaching the two year anniversary of Katrina, the neighborhoods of St. Bernard Parish continue to struggle to rebuild. Although houses and businesses remain boarded-up and FEMA trailers still dot front yards, the St. Bernard Project is determined to help homeowners restore their community. By donating funds, and facilitating volunteers the project has completed more than 30 homes with 20 more underway. When the Shell Shockers players were approached with the volunteer opportunity they were thrilled at the chance to be a part of the rebuilding effort. Although many of the Shell Shockers call New Orleans their hometown; several of the players are from faraway states and countries. Despite hailing from such distant places as Australia or Oregon; the players were moved by the devastation caused by Katrina and naturally wanted to be a part of the rebuilding process. “The mission of our team is not just to play soccer in New Orleans, it is to continue to be a part of the New Orleans community,” commented Shell Shockers General Manager Amanda Miller. “That means that when members of our community need us, as those in St. Bernard Parish so clearly do, we answer the call. I'm proud of our players, coaches and staff for stepping up and doing their part to rebuild New Orleans.” Before their big day of building tomorrow, the Shell Shockers (2-1-2) take on local rivals the Baton Rouge Capitals (1-4-0) in a Louisiana Cup game.
