The New Orleans Shell Shockers took to the field on a hot, humid Friday night, defeating the Mississippi Brilla FC by a score of 4-2 in front of a large crowd. Although it appeared that the Shell Shockers might play at a disadvantage (without midfielder PJ Kee, and Assistant Coach Stephen McAnespie) the team quickly quelled any fans’ fears when Josh Couvillion scored the first goal of the match before one minute could pass on the game clock. It appeared that the Shell Shockers had finally found the offensive attack that had been eluding the team all season; posting three goals before the end of the first half. Shell Shocker Gino Ray had a standout performance, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in the team’s well-earned win.

First Half -
1st minute - Just 38 seconds into the game, Shell Shocker Josh Couvillion, assisted by Gino Ray, scores his first goal of the season.

12th minute - The Shell Shockers demonstrate their improved passing game when midfielder Stuart Hayers flicks the ball to teammate Gino Ray who passes the ball to Brandon Chagnard. Chagnard sends a curving ball into the bottom left corner of Mississippi’s net, bringing the score to 2-0.

24th minute - Mississippi’s defense continues to be bombarded by the Shell Shocker attack. The Shell Shockers post their third goal when Gino Ray capitalizes on Chagnard’s cross, drilling the ball into the net.

27th minute - When Mississippi is awarded a free kick; Dwayne Demmw drives teammate Ousmane Coulibaly’s assist into the net, making the score 3-1.

36th minute - A confused crowd looks on as Ousmane Coulibaly scores when another free kick is awarded in dangerous territory.

44th minute - Shell Shocker Gino Ray receives a yellow card, becoming the first player of the match to be booked.

Second Half -
52nd minute - Mississippi’s Michael Brown receives a yellow card

54th minute - Action intensifies as Shell Shocker Dustyn Brim is kept busy by a barrage of shots.

58th minute - Mississippi forward James Gledhill receives a yellow card

76th minute - Mississippi’s goalkeeper Jordan Fode is cautioned when he has handball outside of the box.

84th minute - In the match less for less than five minutes, Oscar Gonzalez drives a lovely ball from teammate Stephen Duncan into the net, scoring the last goal of the match.

The Shell Shockers will complete their grueling schedule of three games in five days, when they travel to Baton Rouge on Sunday, July 1, to play the Capitals in the deciding ‘Battle of Bayou’ match. The Shell Shockers lead the Capitals in standings (5-2) and need only a tie, or a win to clinch the prestigious Louisiana Cup. The game kicks off at 6PM at Olympia Stadium.
