Shell Shockers Tie Baton Rouge Capitals 2-2 in Battle of the Bayou Match

New Orleans, LA – Despite the heavy, humid weather; a large crowd turned out to watch the New Orleans Shell Shockers (2-3-5) host local rivals, the Baton Rouge Capitals (3-5-3) in a deciding ‘Battle of the Bayou’ match. Needing only a win to secure the Louisiana Cup, as well as bragging rights for the season; the Shell Shockers entered Wednesday’s match leading the Capitals in competition standings. Gracing the table at midfield, the shiny, new Louisiana Cup served as a constant reminder to fans and players of the high stakes of Wednesday’s match. Unfortunately the Shell Shockers could only hold the Baton Rouge Capitals to a tie, ending the match in a 2-2 decision.
First Half-
16th minute: Baton Rouge takes an early lead when Shawn Piccou scores on a
teammate Corey Maret's assist.
23rd minute: Jamie Davies sends Shell Shockers Gino Ray a lovely cross
which Ray easily heads into the net; evening the score 1-1.
36th: The intensity of the match escalates as Shell Shocker Nick Lambert is
shown the first, but not the last, yellow card of the match.
39th: Just minutes later Jamie Davies makes a run into Capitals territory;
scoring unassisted to give the Shell Shockers the 2-1 lead.
40th and 45th minute: two Baton Rouge players are shown cards before the
referee blows the whistle ending the first half.
Second Half-
57th minute: a handball in the box gives the Capitals a chance to even the
score. Baton Rouge's Tony Judice posts the Capitals' second goal of the
match when he scores on the penalty kick.
60th minute- Jamie Davies is shown a yellow-card.
73rd minute: Players from both teams are booked as the match becomes
exponentially more physical. Shell Shocker Ged Quinn receives a yellow
card just moments before Baton Rouge's Chris Arnold is booked. Just ten
minutes later, Arnold's teammate is forced to leave the field when he is
shown the first red card of the match.
90th minute: During the final crucial minutes of the game, PJ Kee is
forced to leave the field when he is shown the second red card of the
match.
The whistle blows, ending the match in a 2-2 decision. Though the Shell
Shockers lead the Capitals in Battle of the Bayou standings (5-2), they
must secure a tie or a win in Sunday's upcoming match in order to gain
possession of the cup. Before the Shell Shockers travel to Baton Rouge on
Sunday, they must battle the Mississippi Brilla on Friday, June 29. The
match kicks off at 7:30 PM at Muss Bertolino Stadium.
