Shell Shockers to Battle DFW Tornados Sunday Second Texas Trip in Two Weeks
June 14, 2007
The Shell Shockers will return to Texas for the second time in two weeks to battle the DFW Tornados this Sunday. With only one point separating the two teams in the Mid-South Division standings and last week’s loss still fresh in their minds; the Shell Shockers (2-2-3) are determined to defeat the fifth-placed Tornados (2-5-2).
Shell Shocker General Manager Amanda Miller acknowledges that last week's loss in the final minutes of the game against the Division-leading Laredo Heat was disappointing, but is optimistic about the team’s ability to trump the Tornados.
“The Tornados will be a good test for us this weekend,” said Miller. “Our number one goal right now is to make the playoffs and to do that, we need a win in Dallas. The team is focused and ready to rebound from last weekend’s disappointing loss.”
Sunday's game against the DFW Tornados kicks off at 5pm and will mark the second of three straight road games. The Shell Shockers will be back home on Wednesday, June 27th when they host the Baton Rouge Capitals in the third game of the ‘Battle of the Bayou’. The Louisiana Cup is still very much up for grabs, so the home match will go a long way towards telling who the inaugural champion will be.
Busy Week:
The Shell Shockers had a busy week as they conducted their first week-long soccer camp of the season in Madisonville. The camp, for boys and girls ages 5-12, gave the Shell Shockers an opportunity to do what they most enjoy; sharing and teaching their love of the ‘beautiful game’. If you are interested in the Shell Shockers leading a camp for your school, club, or group, please contact Amanda Miller at: amiller@noshellshockers.com or via telephone at 504.274.8041.
Players to Watch:
Shell Shocker forward Gino Ray, who is tied with teammates PJ Kee, and Ged Quinn for leading goal-scorer, posted the Shockers’ lone goal in last week’s Laredo game.
The Shell Shocker defense will have to be wary of DFW’s Bruno Guarda who leads his team in goals (5), tied for assists (1), and second only to teammate Adriel Adibi in fouls (18).
