In a city that knows a lot about rebuilding the New Orleans Shell Shockers faced a season of reconstruction - experiencing many dramatic victories and some lesson-learning losses. The Shell Shockers’ closed out the 2007 season in fifth place; easily improving upon last season’s record with a 5-6-5 finish. During their season the Shell Shockers delighted fans with four wins at home, including the thrilling franchise record-setting 8-1 triumph over Austin earlier this month.
Shell Shocker head coach Kenny Farrell compiled his successful squad by blending several talented newcomers with the familiar faces of such seasoned players as midfielder P.J. Kee, defender Gannon Webb and goalkeeper Dustyn Brim. Statistically the Shell Shockers had several players that were near the top of the league. Midfielder and coach’s most valuable player, Stuart Hayers tied for first place in minutes played, having been on the pitch for all 1,440 minutes of the Shell Shockers 16 games. Fellow Shell Shocker MVP, goalkeeper Dustyn Brim, was second in the league for most saves with 102, and was tied for second place for most minutes (1,350) and games played (15).
The Shell Shocker squad was further strengthened by the new additions of midfielder Jamie Davies and defender Ged Quinn. Both British imports were honored by the United Soccer Leagues, having twice been named to the PDL team of the week. Davies led the Shell Shockers in points this season, having accumulated 12 by scoring three goals and assisting on six others. Just one point behind Davies, Ged Quinn led the Shell Shockers in goals scored (5) and posted one assist.
“I’m very proud of the group of young men that played for the Shell Shockers this year,” commented General Manager Amanda Miller. “They were the true definition of ‘team’ and the city of New Orleans should be proud to call them their own. We look forward to the 2008 season as well as the International Soccer Series which will take place over the coming months.”
