Shell Shockers to Play Final Road Game of the Season Saturday
With just one game left in the regular season, the New Orleans Shell Shockers gathered on Tuesday night to announce the coaches' and teams’ picks for Most Valuable Player (MVP). Goalkeeper Dustyn Brim was praised by his fellow players as MVP while the coaching staff honored midfielder Stuart Hayers as the most valued player.
Dustyn Brim
Players MVP- Dustyn Brim
Brim has started all but one game this season for the Shell Shockers. The fearless goalkeeper has consistently proven that he can be trusted as the last line of defense. Whether rushed by a pack of forwards or pressured by a penalty kick; Brim has displayed a maturity and composure that serve to steady the New Orleans defense. Always bellowing advice, or words of encouragement, the hard-working California native has again proven to be one of the team's greatest assets this season. He currently sports a 1.285 GAA.
Coaches MVP- Stuart Hayers
Stuart Hayers
It should come as no surprise that the New Orleans Shell Shockers coaching staff selected Stuart Hayers as their MVP. After all, the team has not played a single minute of any game this season without his anchoring presence on the field. Donning the captain’s armband in midfield, Hayers has demonstrated leadership and versatility as well as a knack for creating scoring opportunities. The 6’2’’ lefty has been praised by coaches for his fluid style as well as his decision-making ability. Likely to be picked up by a major league team in the future, this talented Brit with the quick wit, will be missed by fans, players, and coaches alike.
"Dustyn and Stuart have been the cornerstone of our team this season," commented General Manager Amanda Miller. "They are both great players and deserve this recognition. It's our way of thanking them for all their hard work this season."
Shell Shockers Hope to Keep Playoffs a Possibility
Brim, Hayers and the rest of the New Orleans Shell Shocker squad (5-5-5) will travel to El Paso this Saturday to take on the Patriots (6-6-2) in their last game of the regular season. The Shell Shockers defeated the Patriots 1-0 this past Saturday night on a stunning goal by forward Brandon Chagnard.
With just two points separating most of the teams in the PDL Mid South Standings; the Shell Shockers must win on Saturday in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. The match kicks off at 8PM at Patriot Stadium.
