Shell Shockers Defeat the El Paso Patriots 1-0

The coin toss wasn’t the only thing the New Orleans Shell Shockers won on Saturday night. After struggling on a rain-soaked field, the Shell Shockers (5-5-5) battled and defeated the El Paso Patriots (6-6-2) 1-0 in their last home game of the season. The much needed victory reignited the Shell Shockers playoff hopes, and should the stars perfectly align, the Shell Shockers may just find themselves playoff bound.
First Half -
7th minute - The Shell Shockers are awarded a corner when Dean Grey’s cross skids into the box before being cleared by an El Paso defender.
15th minute - El Paso’s Enrique Cervantes becomes the first, but not the last, player to be booked when he receives a yellow card for his second foul.
24th minute - The slippery field causes difficulty for both teams and as El Paso mounts an attack, Shell Shocker Nick Lambert is forced to knock the ball out of danger.
27th minute - New Orleans’ P.J. Kee moves the ball in midfield, searching for an open player. When he finds forward Brandon Chagnard he sends a lovely cross to Chagnard whose shot is just wide of the Patriot’s net.
40th minute - Shell Shocker Jamie Davies passes to Gino Ray who powers a shot off from 40 yards out.
41st minute - When El Paso is awarded a free kick in dangerous territory, Shell Shocker goalkeeper Dustyn Brim makes an excellent save; punching the ball out of danger.
43rd minute - El Paso’s Daniel Castenda takes down Kee, earning a yellow card for the foul.
Second Half -
65th minute - El Paso’s Anotonio Barrera is shown a yellow card.
73rd minute- Less than ten minutes later, Barrera’s teammate Salvador Mercado is booked.
74th minute - When a flurry of white jerseys invades Shell Shocker territory, Dustyn Brim works over time; making several nice saves in a row.
75th minute - Jamie Davies is shown the only yellow card of the match for the New Orleans Shell Shockers.
76th minute - A water-logged field causes an excellent shot by PJ Kee to skid and go wide.
80th minute - GOAL - Shell Shocker fans go wild as Jared Wooley flicks the ball to Brandon Chagnard who blasts the lower right corner of the El Paso net with his shot.
82nd minute - In a match with almost as many shots as fouls, El Paso’s Carlos Martinez receives a yellow card.
90th minute - The whistle blows after two minutes of stoppage time; allowing Shell Shocker fans to celebrate and breathe a sigh of relief. .
