Fresh off of an astounding 8-1 victory over Austin last Saturday; the New Orleans Shell Shockers (4-4-5) hope to add two more wins to their record this weekend when they battle two Texas teams. In what will be the final two home games of the season; the Shell Shockers face the Dallas-Fort Worth Tornados (5-6-3) on Friday and the El Paso Patriots (6-4-2) on Saturday. The teams are ranked fourth and third respectively in PDL Mid-South standings.
Though the Shell Shockers will face the El Paso Patriots for the first time on Saturday; the team has already had a look at the Tornados; falling to Dallas 4-2 in a difficult road game last month. Despite their loss earlier this season; the Shell Shockers are focused on gaining wins this weekend that are crucial to deciding whether the team will qualify for post-season playoffs.
"The record setting performance against Austin shows that our offense is finally clicking on all cylinders," commented General Manager Amanda Miller."All we can do right now is keep focused on winning these two games to keep our playoff goal in sight."
Players to Watch:
New Orleans Shell Shockers: Recently honored with PDL team of the week accolades for the second time, Shell Shocker midfielder Jamie Davies is a player to watch in this weekend’s games. The London native has accumulated eleven points for contributing three goals and five assists so far this season. Widely renown for his dangerous curving crosses and corner kicks, Shell Shocker fans can look to Davies, P.J. Kee, and Stuart Hayers to create scoring opportunities from the midfield.
19 year-old New Orleans native Brandon Chagnard has played brilliantly in his last three games; recently scoring twice and adding an assist in last Saturday’s game. With his explosive speed and quick feet, this young forward has a knack for finding the back of the net.
Dallas-Fort Worth Tornados:
Leading his team with seven goals and two assists; Dallas midfielder Bruno Guarda could keep defenders Nick Lambert, Ged Quinn, Gannon Webb and Luke Tyburski busy on Friday. The 5’8” midfielder has proved problematic in the past; having bombarded goal keepers with 29 shots and accumulating 28 fouls so far this season.
El Paso Patriots:
Saturday will be the first time New Orleans’ goalkeeper Dustyn Brim will face the El Paso offense. Anchored by Victor Omar Mora-Gomez; the 5’8’’ forward leads the Patriots in points (7), having scored 3 goals and contributing two assists in over 1,000 minutes of play.
The games on Friday, July 13th and Saturday, July 14th will mark the last two home games of the season. Both games kick off at 7:30 PM at Muss Bertolino Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
