July 27, 2006
More international stars have arrived in New Orleans to guest for the Shell Shockers in their glamour exhibition game against Central American giants Olimpia.
Three former Shell Shockers’ players have also been brought back for the game at Pan American Stadium in City Park on Saturday at 5pm. Tickets are $20.
Englishman Anthony Hudson, 24, has been drafted in to play the pivotal central midfield role. He was signed by English Premier League club West Ham United as a schoolboy and also turned out for Championship team Luton Town.
He moved to Holland and was awarded a two-year professional deal with NEC Nijmegen, before returning to England and joining up with Port Vale. He relocated to the USA after he was offered a professional contract and now lives in New Jersey.
Anthony’s family name is famous in England - his father Alan is a soccer legend who won domestic and European trophies while playing 189 times for current Premier League champions Chelsea between 1968 and 1974.
In a remarkable coincidence Anthony will line-up alongside current fans’ favorite Nick Beasant. His dad Dave was also a Chelsea legend, turning out for the illustrious London team on 157 occasions from 1989 until 1993.
Up front the Shell Shockers have recruited ex-Olimpia striker Marvin Brown, a Honduran international who played for his country in their spectacular 2001 Copa America campaign. The Central Americans came third in the continent-wide tournament for national sides, beating South American powerhouse Brazil in the quarter-final.
The Shell Shockers have added Sandy Serginho from Trinidad and Tobago to the defense to help blunt the razor-sharp Olimpia offensive threat. The 24-year-old has also got forward and scored a number of goals this season for his club Indiana Invaders.
Joining former assistant coach Steve McAnespie in returning to the Shell Shockers for a special one-off appearance is left-back Colin Rocke. Rocke, 38, starred for the Trinidad and Tobago national team and played in their 1990 World Cup qualifying campaign.
He has enjoyed a long and successful career both indoors and outdoors which has taken him to Charleston, El Paso, Dallas and Las Vegas, and he was also a member of the New Orleans Storm, the city’s minor league team before the formation of the Shell Shockers.
Finally Nestor Peralta, 32, returns as a representative from the city’s Hispanic Islano League. The defender started four times for the Shell Shockers this season and scored one goal.
